A classic Key Largo spur-and-groove reef inside the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, busy with grunts, tarpon and the occasional reef shark.

Getting there & parking

Charter boats run from Key Largo, roughly a 30 minute ride to the mooring balls.

Entry & exit

Giant stride from the dive boat, return to the stern ladder on the trailing line.

Typical conditions

Visibility often 15-25 m. Current picks up on the outer edge of the spurs.

Hazards

Boat traffic overhead; always ascend on the mooring line.

Best season: Year round, calmest May to September.
